There are references to this photo as being of Victor Hugo on his deathbed, but none say whether it is pre or post mortem. Certainly the year (1885) is right for this.

It's amusing that the date is 1885 and Flickr lists the camera used as a Canon EOS 5D Mark II. ;-)

Wow! I would never thought I would see a dead baby in a casket displayed like that. I'm woundering what the purpose of this photograph is? And another thought, would we today ever let someone take a photo like this, outside a criminal investigation.

I debated about putting this photo up, but it is part of the photographer's work and there are other similar photos up on the Commons, so I went ahead with it. Apparently, it was quite common back in those days to take photos like this. Quite sad though.
