Hi, Thanks for your comment - I agree that this group don't look the happiest bunch. But John Thomas, the famous photographer from Ceredigion traveled throughout Wales and took a great deal of photos of ordinary people either at home or by their workplace. Did he take any of the nearby almshouses at Llanfwrog? My gg grandmother was there, probably from 1871 when her husband died, until 1888.

Do these expressions reflect what life was like? this is the most compelling photograph I've ever seen. I'm listening to Golden Bird by Levon Helm while I'm looking at this and the music is perfect for this image.
