  The photo was probably taken on Lebreton Flats, the centre of the lumbering industry in Ottawa and the major employer, even after the federal capital was established in Ottawa. It was called Bytown after Lt-Col John By who was in charge of the construction of the Rideau Canal from Ottawa to Kingston.
