View looking southwest. The date may actually be 26 May 1931, when the Army Air Corps "Eastern Air Arm" arrived en masse (100 aircraft) to celebrate the grand opening of the airport. Some great information on the field's history can be found at www.airfields-freeman.com/MA/Airfields_MA_W.htm#bowles

Identifiable as F-2's (photo reconnaissance verion of the C-45) by the oddly-shaped panel within the cabin door; both aircraft sport the short-lived orange & green "high vis' banding on the upper surfaces for Arctic operations.
