---world war ii pacific theater pearl harbor attack car riddled by schrapnel from bomb dropped at pearl harbor eight miles away.---

Initially thought to have been killed by shrapnel from a Japanese bomb on December 7, 1941, this car was actually struck near 802 Judd Street, Alewa Heights (north of Pearl Harbor), by shrapnel from an errant 5-inch anti-aircraft shell fired at Japanese aircraft during the attack. Those killed in the 1937 Packard 120 sedan were shipyard riggers John Adams and his father, Joseph Adams, their uncle, Joseph McCabe, and McCabe's nephew David Kahookele.
All four men had attended 7 a.m. mass that morning along with family members at St. Ann’s Parish in Kāne‘ohe, near where the Adams and McCabe families resided. Like hundreds of others that morning . . . the four riggers were heeding urgent radio advisories to report to their Pearl Harbor work stations at once.
