    Not a P-51A. This is a NA-73, the NAA designation for the first batch of RAF Mustang Mk I. It has a British camo paint job and the doghouse intake has a moveable "mouth" (not a feature of a P-51A). It has the US insignia because the USAAC was test-flying it, and they always put a US insignia on any aircraft that were built for a foreign nation, but were being test-flown by the US military.

    A NAA P-51A Mustang 43-6233 (Model NA-99) in flight, one of 1200 P-51As ordered for the USAAF in August 1942. However, only 310 were delivered as P-51As with Allison V-1710-81s -- the lion's share being delivered as P-51B/Cs with RR (Packard) Merlin V-1650-3s replacing the original Allisons.
