    When I came to work in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1969, I saw the last days of scenes like this on Tyneside. The local people said that when the ships were being built, they sheltered the streets from the wind, and they noticed the difference when the ships were launched and moved away.

    Wow; I never cease to be amazed at what arbitrary browsing of the commons turns up. A quick search reveals this to be the very Ohio that stayed afloat despite extensive damage and made it to Malta with its cargo of oil, considered by some to have saved Malta from falling into German hands.
