    This photo was taken from Aloha Tower, in Honolulu, Hawaii. The ocean liner in the photograph is not the "Tayia Maru," as there is no ship known to have had that name. While there was a Taiyo Maru belonging to the Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) line of Japan, that ship had two taller, narrow funnels, spaced closer together. This ship appears to be an ocean liner of the three-ship Asama Maru-class operating with the NYK Line prior to the Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. The three ships were named Asama Maru (浅間丸), Tatsuta Maru (龍田丸), and Chichibu Maru (秩父丸). Chichibu Maru featured only a single funnel, compared to her sister ships' two. Since the handwritten caption names a ship beginning with the letter "T," this may be Tatsuta Maru.
