June 24, 1912, a crowd of 400 people, many women and children, rushed on to a pier after a day of picnic-ing, the pier collapsed and threw some 250 into the water (but they did not all die). The water was relatively fast moving, some drowned and some were swept downstream in the current. About 20 were estimated to have perished. Location is near Niagra Falls.
