    In the upper half of the right margin, the picture is dated 3/17/27. The background and clothes Tex Rickard is wearing, however, seem to be the same as on this picture below, dated to 9/23/27:

    The dates written on Bain negatives are often dates when the photo was used rather than when they were taken. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tex_Rickard "George Lewis "Tex" Rickard (January 2, 1870 – January 6, 1929) was an American boxing promoter, founder of the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL), and builder of the third incarnation of Madison Square Garden in New York City. During the 1920s, Tex Rickard was the leading promoter of the day, and he has been compared to P. T. Barnum and Don King. Sports journalist Frank Deford has written that Rickard "first recognized the potential of the star system." Rickard also operated several saloons, hotels, and casinos, all named Northern and located in Alaska, Nevada, and Canada." But it's also possible that these photos were taken in 1921 (the period for most of the photos in the current chunk from the Bain stream) because he was getting lots of press then too.

That copy is dated 18 May 1921 with no indication of the source for the photo or evidence for the date. www.fighttoys.com/rickard photo pair 1921.htm also date photos from this shoot to May 18 1921. This appears to be an offer for sale of actual photos, and indicates that there is a typed identification: TEX RICKARD Preparing for the big fight May 18, 1921. The big fight was on July 2, 1921.     There are two dates on the negative: 9/23/27 and 5/18/21, which means that the photo was taken in 1921 and reused in 1927 by Bain News Service IMO.
