In October 1900 the Sydney Mail published a series of photos from the Newcastle Customs House tower - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/163696010 . Yet to find if these 1906 photos were published in a newspaper.

I think you will find that is actually what is now called York Drive in King Edward Park. Maybe it was Memorial Drive back in the day.

Warren Leadbeatter Looking at google maps it looks like Memorial Drive follows the coast until it splits with the coastal road becoming York Drive. But you're right the patch of road depicted in the image above looks like it would have been taken on York Drive. I have maintained the original caption and added York Drive in square brackets.
