Another bit of aircraft nerding from me. The one on top is a Shorts S20. Below is an S21. Both aircraft were passed on to BOAC in 1940. The S20 was broken up at Rochester in 1941. The S21 was destroyed in an air raid at Poole during WWII.

The 'Mayo Composite' moments after a trial separation. The release mechanism for the S.20 upper long range mail plane was surprisingly complex. Both aircraft were unique, one of a kind articles, the S.21 being based on the S.23 Empire Flying Boat, but had a wider chine to support the weight of the upper aircraft.
