this statue stands before the city hall of Antwerp. Notice Brabo holding a mutilated hand, ready to throw it away? Legends say that the city's name comes from this particular action: "hand" + "werpen (meaning to throw away)" = Antwerpen or in english, Antwerp. The hand is that of Antigoon, a giant who lived by the banks of the river Scheldt, collecting toll money from ships who sail up and down the river.

The artist who has made the scuplture - it is a fountain - was Jef Lambeaux, born in Antwerp. In the background you can see one of the old 16th century guild houses. On top there is a statue of Saint-George (Sint-Joris) killing the dragon. This statue was also created by Jef Lambeaux and thus many years younger than the buikding itself.
