The dolls look like those troll dolls that the kids were collecting a few years ago! A very happy scene with interesting dresses and hats on view! There are footballers in the background, what would they have been playing? Soccer, rugby, American Football???

Those are actually baseball players. Baseball and hockey were the two main sports in the Coal Branch. There was a friendly but intense rivalry between the different towns in the Coal Branch. Men who were really good at either sport would sometimes get hired on just to be ringers at these kinds of events!

Terrific picnic shot, takes me back a few years to a time when picnics were the highlight of our summer. Now its foreign travel and bungee jumping:-) Well done to Allan Godby for these shots, they are a great representation of the times!

There are a lot of accounts of picnics in the mountains in the publications about life in the Coal Branch. It must've been pretty heavenly.
