George was a 24 year old carter at the time he enlisted on the 12th of July 1915. He was living at 23 Nowranie Street, Summer Hill, NSW . Information on the third entry of this document He was recommended for and was awarded the Military Medal. He survived the war and returned to Australia on the 5th of March 1919 as per here (link broken - site is under maintenance)

Such an emotional shot. The boy has just lost his father and is proud enough to wear both medals and uniform to pay his respects. But more importantly he was strong enough to get up there and salute him despite what emotions he was going through.
