Ardent Socialist and social reformer; author of the shocking bestseller, "The Jungle," (1906) a novel that exposed deplorable conditions in the meatpacking industry in Chicago. In 1914, the date of this photo, the movie version of "The Jungle" was released. Sinclair himself appeared at the beginning and end of the film. Born in Baltimore, Sinclair as a child moved with his family to New York City, and grew up there.
