It appears the aircraft impacted at a lower speed, seeing most of the wreckage in this one view. I found limited information about the crash (no mention of the pilot's status): 10/27/58 Convair F-106A-CO Delta Dart Crashed Northeast Of Edwards AFB. (per 2 sources) www.qnet.com/~carcomm/b.htm and Baugher www.joebaugher.com/usaf_serials/1957.html Info on the Delta Darts www.fighter-planes.com/info/f106_delta_dart.htm It looks like those that didn't crash during piloted flight were "killed" as AIM sidewinder missile targets; one was sunk as a reef.
