Just to confirm - 1912 Thoms directory places St James Villa at the end of St James Terrace, and names the resident as J O'Connor.

Okay - if someone has access to a set of Thoms directories, it might be useful to browse them. The 1892 directory is online & it looks as though James Terrace runs to 12 houses, with the Villa not being mentioned. The next directory I've found online is that of 1912 - and it has J O'Connor resident in it. I think the 1911 Census shows the Villa as empty - it mentions a house with 9 windows as part of James Terrace - that seems to be the villa - and it's listed as empty. That same house (9 windows) in the 1901 census contains the family of one William Bannister, a builder: www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Malahide...

You've got the map pointed to the wrong place - it was on the corner of Grove Road (maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V2,722944,745798,11,9), but yes, it's long gone.

I did a paper round in that area in the early 80's, before Marley was built. There was some big old house there then with a large dog and a tennis court. I can't remember if it looked like that or if it was already gone by then.
