Information on Hilda Buckmaster pictured above from LSE Magazine November 1984 No68 p.20 Hilda Buckmaster was born in 1887 in London and was an LSE student 1919-24 (B.Sc Econ, Public Administration) and 1930-32. Her life included service in two world wars: a motor transport driver 1917-19; work as a League of Nations Union organising secretary; with the Quaker Relief Service in Poland; parliamentary candidate in the 1930s, 40s and 50s; a period as Warden of Crosby Hall in London. She went to Canada in 1955 to work as a dietician and other appointments in the University of Toronto, and from 1963 to 1967 as Secretary to the Canadian Institute of Public Affairs. In retirement she remained involved in public bodies including ten years as Director of the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes.
