NYT of September 16, 1917 query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9406E2DC103AE433A... reports that he was Treasurer of the Musicians Unit, formed as a unit of the American Red Cross as an umbrella organization for benefit concerts, etc.

"The legacy of two Irish tenors to Connecticut: John McCormack and Peter Dolan" -- digitalcommons.sacredheart.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?articl... suggests a likely location for this batch of McCormack photos. The article suggests that in 1917, he and Lily bought Rocklea in Noroton (a section of Darien), CT. There is also mention of a farm that he called Lilydale and a 40-foot boat Macushla. However, I'm not sure that the boat here would be as long as 40 feet.

I'm channeling pennylrichardsca (now at ipernity) by adding tags to these McCormack photos based on the research of swanq on these photos as well as the earlier McCormack photos swanq has referenced.

swanq, The New York Times reported the sale of Lilidale on February 26, 1922. I don’t yet know if that’s what’s shown in this LOC photograph, although I would think it likely. “John McCormack, the well-known tenor, sold the estate known as Lillydale [sic] Farm, at Noroton, Conn., consisting of 163 acres of farm and woodland, to the Highland Farm Company of Darien, Conn. who, in turn, has leased it to the Ox Ridge Hunt Club for a long terms of years.” – The New York Times (This information is also included in the reference swanq provided above: digitalcommons.sacredheart.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?articl... ) The Ox Ridge Hunt Club exists to this day, and the link is to a “history page” referencing John McCormack. (albeit they misspell the name as McCormick – pleasing neither the McCormacks' or the McCormicks'  ;)
