Is it really August, 1940, though? All we know is that it's August 1940 OR AFTER. How often do you forget to change the month? Especially when you can't reach it over all of the lemon meringue pies? hahaha

Good point roketpad! Maybe he just liked the August 1940 picture and it's really several years later? Or maybe he looked ahead and it's really only January?

As a wildlife ranger for more than sixteen years over here in the UK and a one time squad leader in a Royal Marines Commando Reconnaissance Troop, I can totally connect with these wonderful images and I thank you for making them available for public view on Flickr. Meanwhile I wish you all well and that everything goes exactly according to plan with any and all of Oregon's 150th anniversary celebrations. It must be a wonderful place to live and work.

Hello to all of you across the ocean! I find I am enchanted with these images over and over again... I have the same experience with some of the Celilo Falls images we'll be releasing in a couple of weeks, as well as some of the logging photos of northwest Oregon taken by John Fletcher Ford.

69 yrs ago the government saw the way out of the economic crisis was to set up armies of unemployed and pay them. Then they entered the 2nd World War and had a post war boom. What will they try this time?
