In 1920, in recognition of the NYSO's successful 8 week summer tour of Europe, Walter Damrosch was presented with a Golden Laurel Wreath. Or maybe 2 wreaths. Or maybe just one wreath presented twice.

The New York Times reported in September that "The Musician's Club" presented the wreath to Damrosch on the day of his return to NYC on the Lafayette.

The NY Trib and the NY Herald published similar stories in early November describing how Damrosch was presented with a Golden Wreath by the directors of the Symphony Society during a performance at Carnegie Hall.

Did he get two wreaths 2 months apart? I suspect he was welcomed home with a/the wreath in September, but the formal presentation was made in November, giving him ample time to prepare his gracious extemporaneous remarks praising the president of the society (and funder of the trip).

Given Damrosch's very formal attire in this photo, I would speculate that this dates from the November presentation, taken in a private room at Carnegie Hall.

Thanks Richard Norton and Seuss.. We'll update this info. If you look closely in the upper left corner there appears to be a date of 11/6/20, shortly after the Carnegie Hall concert mentioned above.
