Were these originally from the Tule Lake internment camp across the state line in California? I know at the end of the war the barracks were sold off to homesteaders and a number are still in use in the area.

Very good question. I don't know where they were originally and I am not sure that we have any information in our archive about the management or design of the camps. That information *might* be in the Extension Service Records, though those records are usually reports from the Extension agents who were in the field.

It seems the most likely camp, given the location? As a side note, Kevin Miyazaki, a photographer based here in Milwaukee, has been working on a project documenting the current use of the surviving Tule Lake barracks www.kevinmiyazaki.com/ (see "Camp Home" under the "Personal Projects" section - there's a horizontal scroll bar under the section text to view the photos). Both his father's family and my mother's family were interned there.

Been meaning to post these links - this is the Tule Lake barrack building on display at the local history museum in Tulelake, CA (though I think all the camps had very similar architecture)

Still, so horrible that this was done to those people.
