Museums of History NSW - State Archives Collection I think the date of this photo must be 1919, as George Cartwright arrived back in Australia on the 'Khyber' on 16/5/1919.

Many years ago I was talking to a fellow passenger on a flight in the US and who had visited Australia in the 60's and was delighted at the opportunity to ask me about a riddle which had bemused him since his trip so long ago. He had checked in to a regional airport and the airline staff member didn't allow him on the plane saying "Sorry Ockka the Fokker's chocka" which means to any Australian "Sorry Mate the plane is full" I wonder what happened to all those many Fokker Friendship aircraft servicing regional Australia.

beachcomber australia Yes it does indeed seem to be Otho Street (Gwydir Hwy) taken from Byron St - Thanks! I'll update the caption. -AG

It seems to me entirely bogus that Yetman and Bonshaw are in opposite directions from Inverell, because they are both north of Inverell. The photo must be taken looking SE down Otho street, from the T junction with Byron Street. The photo is looking in the direction towards Glen Innes. Actually the road on the left goes to Bonshaw and the road to Yetman branches off the Gwydir Highway about 1 km to the right. Some of those cars are mid-30's or later so it can't be 1920's.
