Btw it is in Hartford, Connecticut.

I respectfully suggest that this is not one of the Irving Streets in Florida, but Irving Street in Norfolk, Virginia, where Sir Roger Casement spoke to the Ancient Order of Hibernians in July 1914. [Edit] The houses in Irving ST, Norfolk, Virginia look similar to the ones in today's photo, but the Hartford ones look even more similar.

Yes, as beachcomber australia has said, we figured this image was from Hartford, Connecticut and it is possible that Casement lived here. Whether he ever went to Florida remains doubtful...

As the obituary linked above indicates, Marjorie Leichner Rafal just died this month (October 2009). She was 93. She was a Wellesley alumna, a teacher in Hartford, a writer, a great-grandmother, and "a renowned constructor of crossword puzzles." Does anyone know where this step is (probably in the Hartford area)? Would make a good then-and-now.

By description it would be the July 11 Bridgeport byline. North Haven is on a different line from Westport (which is geographically closer to Bridgeport on the same NYNH&H line).

This accident appears to be on a steel supported wood bridge rather than down an embankment.
