I wondered just what constituted "hard labour" for a woman prisoner? Good to read the empathic comments associated with this child prisoner who seems not to have even a shawl to warm her.

Still in Woolwich at the 1871 census. Started an apprenticeship in the Merchant Navy in 1874, but cancelled. Has he tried to run away to sea perhaps?
