  Google aerial view as no Streetview available. Built in 1827 for the Shirley family according to Archiseek.

  OSI Map. Is it just me or did the NIAH forget it? ETA: Well, the gardeners didn't forget it.

  In the mild late autumn of 1938 no fewer than 68 different varieties of plants and shrubs were flowering in the garden, according to Mrs K Shirley, Lough Fea, Carrickmacross, in a letter to the London Times on 8th November. She thinks it must be some sort of record for somewhere so far north.

  There was an interesting article in the Examiner from 2012 explaining how most of the west side of Carrickmacross Main St. still belongs to the Shirley family.

  This seems to be from the City Road / Myrtle Street intersection. Two of the gate pillars are still there - Google Street View - g.co/maps/b77kz . Can anyone see any (steam) tram lines? The tramway to Newtown opened on 2 October 1882, which might make this photo before then.
