I don't think that is Glenmore Road

I think the horse and cart may be in the right-angled James Lane, looking north.

Can anyone identify the large estate (top right) whose entrance gate can be seen between the trees? At first I thought it might have been the entrance to Thomas Mitchell's Craigend Estate on Upper William St, Darlinghurst, but the lie of the land is not quite right, and the Upper William St frontage, apart from the gate & driveway, was developed into a row of terrace houses by the 1880s. So I've dismissed this possibility.

There's a very similar looking gate on Trumper Oval (cnr Glenmore and Hampden Roads). Thanks for your input, gentlemen. My problem is that if the "Woodliffe" house is actually in Glenmore Rd, as seems possible, what is the street we see in the treed background? It can't be the continuation of Glenmore Rd as it's much higher than the section of Glenmore Rd where the "Woodliffe residence" is situated. If my memory serves me right, the continuation of Glenmore Rd toward New South Head Rd beyond the Cascade/Hampden Sts intersection is low and relatively flat until it begins rising as it approaches the bend and railway before arriving at NSH Rd. Also visible in the above photo is a sandy patch on the hill in the mid-ground. There was a quarry sandwiched between Cascade St and Cambridge Lane. It is clearly not this. However, (and having never explored that part of Paddington,) I can see on the map at the other SE end of Trumper Park a certain Quarry St which is so-named because there must have been a quarry in the immediate area. Is this sandy patch a part of that quarry that we are looking at? If it is, then the road and parkland behind it must be either Jersey Rd or even Ocean St? This now demands identifying the whereabouts of the foreground. Are we looking at looking at the horse and dray being in Elizabeth Lane between Sutherland Ave and Harris St? Or maybe Sudan Lane off Hampden St near Cecil St? Next time I'm in town & have some spare time I'll explore that area of Paddington to get a better idea of the lie of the land.

Re the date - from the GoogleMapsStreetView above, the buildings which replaced this corner shop (Bob Janes and the blocks of units) look to be c.1930, which would make this photo late 1920s. Also the 1920s car in Reddy Street behind.
