  That's too many keys for a typewriter. Could these be early accounting machines?

  I agree with vistavision. The color pattern of the keys especially makes it look like an early accounting typewriter. Here's the link to a drawing of one from 1911

  Here's a link to a different exposure of this image. I agree it's not a typewriter, albeit Hine took many photographs of typists and office workers.
