Caption is incorrect. This is a Republic F-105D Thunderchief, USAF Ser. No. 62-4299. This aircraft is still extant and on display at the Travis Air Force Base Museum. Here is a more recent photo (February 2015) by Flickr user 2 Wilce:

Wild Weasel aircraft used for Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD) mission. It carries HARM (Homing Anti Radiation Missile) designed to lock on to enemy air defense radar emissions and destroy the radar units used to direct Surface to Air Missiles (SAM) at US aircraft.

Republic F-105G-1-RE Thunderchief 63-8266 in the 561st TFS 388th TFW out of Korat RTAFB carrying a couple of AGM-45 Shrikes over RVN in Oct '72. Later to AMARG as FK0014 on 1 Jul 80. Republic F-105B-15-RE Thunderchief 57-5790 (0-75790) of the NJ ANG's 141st FS 108th TFW from McGuire AFB, NJ. This a/c flew with the USAF Thunderbirds during their brief usage in 1964 and later crashed during an approach on 2 Feb 71 (pilot survived).
