“In Drumcondra, St Catherine's, a well long covered in, existed on the west side of the pathway that leads from Walsh Road to the footbridge in what's now Griffith Park. Before the park was established this was part of Millbourne Avenue and the well was in the back yard of a cottage there. St Catherine's well may have been a site of veneration as far back as the 13th century.

These wells were said to have curative powers for various ailments, even promoting eternal life, or at the very least a bit of longevity. St Catherine's, we're told, was great for the auld toothache but you had to drink the water from a skull, assuming you had one handy.”

He was buried at Holy Cross College in Drumcondra beneath the High Altar. On June 25th, 2021, his remains were transferred to St. Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, Dublin 1. The sale of Holy Cross College required that his body be reinterred. ..."

View from Jones Road looking West? Streetview Looks like it, that is Clonliffe Flour Mills at right per the 25" map. Binn's Bridge in the distance. The Flour mills are there on the 1930s Cassini map too. That site is now the Croke Park hotel, Croke Park itself is behind the cameraman to our right.

Clonliffe Flour Mill on right, the Royal Canal on left and a P&T linesman on top. There'll be no commuter service tonight, although there is a parallel line on the other side of Croker. The MGW line which follows the canal to Mullingar.
