I think all the gold mines in this area are now closed. My father-in-law worked at the Camp Bird mine in the fifties. It was the last one in operation.

You have to admire these pioneer women.

This is in later days. Note the corrugated iron roof. Mum and the kids are well dressed. The family owns a buggy. These are not original settlers from the Robinson Acts era, so many of whom gave up and walked off their land.
