Car strike parade (LOC)

  • Art Siegel said:
This is the strike parade turning off 4th Avenue (since re-named Park Avenue South) onto 17th Street at Union Square, filling the square for the speeches. The building at center, rear has a large porch where speeches were made.

"STRIKERS IN PARADE MARCH IN SILENCE; 8,000 Men in Line, but Only Surface Line Employes Are in Uniform. HUGH FRAYNE AT THE HEAD Union Workers Throng Line of March and Cheer Lustily ;- Three Women March.

Eight thousand men, most of them striking employes of the Interborough, the New York Railways Company, the Westchester companies, and the Third Avenue Railroad Company, took part in a "silent" parade yesterday in an effort to win the support of the public and to show that a majority of the traction employes were on strike."
