lovely Building..

I have always been fascinated by tall buildings, especially when they are under construction. As with the building of the New York Public Library, projects like those look very complex and even dangerous. I notice that that scaffolding is up high, but how do they ensure that nothing falls to the ground and hits someone? This picture always reminds me of a joke I read in the NY Herald Tribune years ago. Q: How can you tell if George Washington was in the army or navy? A: He stood up in a boat so he had to be in the army!

I just read an article that recreates this more accurately, saying that they wouldn't have used a boat, but a raft tied to cables, due to the transport of animals and cannons. It was also very foggy and George would have been sitting.

Very powerful to watch the process of the nineteenth century being relegated to ground level.
