Well, if this site is accurate: home.att.net/~jbaugher/thirdseries1.html it suggests the tail section on which they are working is from a Grumman TBF-1 Avenger.

At first I was unconvinced as I couldn't find any images of an SNC-1 showing that round access hatch, but I did finally find one at: www.wisbechaeroclub.co.uk/Scale Drawings/images/C/Curtiss SNC-1 Falcon/Curtiss SNC-1 Falcon (1).jpg although now I'm left confused about the tail number :)
