This is a photo of Mitchel Field (in the foreground) and, adjacent to the north, Roosevelt Field The point of view of the camera is from the south looking toward the northwest. Today, to the right side of the frame you would find Nassau Community College (which has repurposed may of the base's former buildings as lecture halls), to the left, occupying several former Mitchel Field hangars would be the Cradle of Aviation Museum, and the Long Island Children's Museum. And, well, as for Roosevelt Field to the north, you would see a large shopping mall. . .

Replica Spirit in flight for the movie The Spirit of St. Louis. At the Nassau County Museum, Long Island. Charles Ryan.

This particular Ryan B-1 Brougham, NC7212 (c/n 159), was one of a handful of Broughams rebuilt as "Spirit of St. Louis" replicas by Paul Mantz for the 1955 Billy Wilder directed film "The Spirit of St. Louis," starring Jimmy Stewart. The aircraft was also flown by Charles Lindbergh. The aircraft is currently is on exhibit in its "Spirit of St. Louis" guise at the Cradle of Aviation Museum at Mitchel Field on Long Island.
