    The unnamed naval officer in the photograph, standing next to Major Frank H. Lawton (US Army), is Lt. Commander Charles E. Courtney (USN). Courtney (USNA 1899) was the commander of the USS Jason at the time (likely November 11, 1914, see other recently LOC/Bain posted photos of USS Jason and Maj. F.H. Lawton). Courtney would ultimately rise to the rank of Vice Admiral before retiring from the Navy.
