I can confirm there are two lions in that photo. The lions were obtained from Melbourne zoo and integrated into the act. It was first performed in Brisbane in May 1903 Ref: THE "INNER LIFE" OF A MODERN CIRCUS. (1903, May 23). The Queenslander (Brisbane, Qld. : 1866 - 1939), p. 22 Supplement: Unknown.
