The correct spelling is "Stortingsbygningen" - The Norwegian Parliament Building

The contemporary spelling is Stortinget/Stortingsbygningen, but the old one is Storthinget, according to Ivar Aasen But of course, for searching Flickr, Stortinget is the best spelling. Here is some more images of Stortinget This photo, btw, is probably taken from Grand Hotel. Here is the relation between these two buildings sorrounding Eidsvolls Plass (square) So this image of Grand Hotel on Karl Johans Gate (usually called Karl Johan), in your collection is taken from Stortinget. The Parliament building was finished in 1866. The Freemasons building, as mentioned, was build somewhere mid 1890's so the photo was probably taken late 1890's.

Christiania seems to have a long tradition of slightly odd architecture, including things built outward like this one. This was in my contacts' photos just last week: www.flickr.com/photos/dgbalancesrocks/3179720688/

A "stabbur" is a small building made for storage of food. I believe the "outward" style has something to do with keeping mice and rats out of the building.

I would guess that this "stabbur" is located in an outdoor museum located at Bygdøy in Oslo called Norsk Folkemuseum (Norwegian folk museum). Christiania is an old name of Norways capital Oslo. The museum have, among other things, a collection of old norwegian buildings, and it was founded in 1894. Lú: The Christiania in the picture you are linking to is in Denmark. It's a part of Copenhagen.

This is indeed at the Folkemuseum. I feel a huge urge go there immediately and get a "now" shot from this angle!

These days, my grandfather lives roundabout where this photo must've been taken from.

I used to live just on the left edge of this picture. the house was built in 1907 so it's not yet in this picture.

This summer castle was buildt 1847-52, and the architect was Johan Henrik Nebelong for King Oscar I. Oscarshall was sold by King Carl IV to the Norwegian state in 1863, and has been at the disposal of Norwegian kings since. The building is considered one of the main neo-Gothic works in Norway. The architectural style is patterned on the English neo-Gothic castle, which was typical in Scandinavia in the mid-19th century. In addition to the main building, the property consists of a park that stretches down to the fjord, where an open pavilion is located. The interior was wholly constructed by Norwegian artists and artisans. The castle is now closed for restoration, but will open for the public soon. Current spelling is Oscarshall.
