This photo ran in several newspapers, e.g. the Grand Forks herald., May 19, 1919, Image 12, with the caption: "Private Pontiac Williams, a full blooded Ottawa Indian, won the distinguished service cross in the war. He enlisted at Detroit, Mich., and served with Company K, 125th infantry. He was in all of that regiment's battles except Soissons. He was wounded at Chateau-Thierry. He was born at Hart, Mich., and went to the Indian school at. Mount Pleasant, Mich. He speaks English and the Ottawa language fluently. Age, ;23 ; height, 5 feet 3 inches ; weight, 132 pounds. Language, Ottawa and excellent English. Education, Indian School, Mount Pleasant, Mich. In all battles of One hundred and twenty-fifth except Soissons ; wounded, at Chateau-Thierry ; wound stripe. Occupation, 2 years training for stationary engineer. Enlisted in Company F, Thirty-third Regiment Infantry, Michigan National Guard, in Detroit. Received D. S. C. and has been recommended for D. S. M. Is an example in demeanor, conduct and soldierly appearance, according to his officers. Krunkel, Rhenish Prussia, Germany. January 23, 1919.
