Austrian Chasseurs (LOC)

"Chasseur" is a term for light calvary: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chasseur

"Chasseur" is merely the French for "hunter": in a military context the nearest equivalent in British usage is "rifleman" as in "Rifle Brigade". It does also apply to a particular type of light cavalry, but these are clearly infantrymen. The German equivalent is jäger, and the photograph is probably of either a Feldjäger battalion or one of the four regiments of Tiroler Kaiserjäger of the Austro-Hungarian common army (k.u.k. Heer) around 1900.
