According to query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9E02EFD8133CE633A... (Nov 16, 1912) he was president of the Grand Trunk Railway. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Trunk_Railway As the Wikipedia article notes, there was an extended and bitter battle over an extension of GTR to Providence, which had larger port facilities than New London, Connecticut. This NYT article and many others are about that dispute. The extension was never completed (also according to Wikipedia).

"Chamberlin, Edson Joseph (1852-1924), president of the Grand Trunk Railway (1912-17), was born in Lancaster, New Hampshire, on August 25, 1852 . He was educated at the Montpelier Methodist Seminary, and in 1871 entered the service of a New England railway. In 1886 he became general manager of the Canada Atlantic Railway, and in 1909 general manager and vice-president of the Grand Trunk Railway. In 1912 he became president of this railway, but he resigned in 1917. He died at Pasadena, California, on August 27, 1924.
