First Building in Flinton - Flint's Store

  • JACKIE BLEECKER said:
Senator Billa Flint sold the store to E.J. Matthews. (Matthews is buried in the Flinton Anglican Church Cemetery). E.J. Matthews sold it to James "Halley" Stone and Edith May (Sedgewick) Stone c.1900. During the time in which it was owned by my great-grandparents (Halley and Edith Stone), the sign above the veranda read, "J.H. Stone, Dry Goods & Provisions." Upon their retirement, Halley and Edith Stone sold the store to Arthur and Ina Carkner. The Carkners operated the store for several years. Later after the store was closed in the 1950s, the Carkners sold the building to Ina's brother, Doug Davison and his wife Betty. Doug and Betty renovated it into a house and raised their family there. The building recently changed hands again when it was sold to Kaitlin Brown and her family.
