Does anybody know when/why the clock was replaced/updated? This photo shows the older, very ornate clock with roman numerals on a plain wall. Current photos show a clock face with arabic numerals in a subdued color scheme flanked by two windows.

My google skills are failing me on this one. What deep, dark secret are the city fathers (Stadtväteren?) of Basel trying to hide? -

Thanks Luc Brocard and Richard Norton. We'll update the catalog record.
Seuss., in my quick searches I couldn't find a date the clock was replaced. I did find this photo on the Portal to Texas History, from the University of North Texas, probably taken around WWII, texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth613020/m1/1/. We actually have a travel poster from 1939 which is an illustration, not a photo, but shows the old clock, www.loc.gov/pictures/item/2009633623/. -

The clock visible in the photo was installed in 1838. During a renovation in 1933, the original condition was largely restored.
