    These are presumably American Indian artifacts. www.johnhillgallery.com/gpage1.html has some dolls with similar characteristics. From what I can see on the web, the Hopi and Zuni tribes would be the most likely source -- of the tribes in what is now the U.S. But maybe they come from further south.

    Hard to tell, but I think this is a 'fake' fossil. Even though all the 'bones' are numbered, none of them seem to conform to any bones I've ever seen and the whole thing appears to have been carved from a single block! Unless it's someone's attempt to copy a genuine fossil assemblage, perhaps to illustrate the paleontologist's difficult job of reconstructing a skeleton from a rock sample, I think the Smithsonian's been had!
