Walter Elmer Ekblaw (1882-1949), midwestern geology professor, taught at the University of Illinois, 1910-1913. Is credited as the founder of Homecoming festivities at the University. Ekblaw was on the same 1913 Arctic expedition as Maurice Tanquary (seen in a recent Flickr Commons upload): Nice article about the expedition, with more photos of Ekblaw and Tanquary: www.uiaa.org/urbana/illinoisalumni/0801b.html

pennylrichardsca: Thanks for the information. It looks (after some rotating and flipping) as though the date on the negative is June 27, 1913. Mr. Ekblaw, as part of the Crocker Land Expedition, left from New York on July 2, 1913. (Dates on the negatives can be mysterious but likely do indicate when the photo was used.)
