This is not Jenolan Caves, possibly the tunnel on the road from Wombeyan Caves to Mittagong.

Mosman I think , roughly the site of the Zoo with Sirius Cove foreground ? The island on the left is Garden Island , when it still was one .

I think it is more Neutral Bay, looking south-ish. For some reason it was a popular view ...

I’m guessing it’s taken from North Sydney somewhere near the top of Blue St and subsequently Holterman’s Tower would be built.

There is a good deal else missing! From Blues Point, somewhere higher than this GoogleMapsStreetView - goo.gl/maps/tBGUDTP5eLP2

I have tried for a while to find the answer to this photo....?
It is from Balls Head looking to Blues Point on its west side.
I would love to know the " West Side Story " ?
Just a little further north, behind those tree branches, there was a coal hopper / bunker too.

colinbm I am not 100% sure that it is from Balls Head (Google Sphere - goo.gl/maps/B6gYEcM58Hp ). The gap between Blues Point and Dawes Point seems to be too narrow. And what is that long pale shed? I thought it was the old railway station at Milsons Point.

Unfortunately all the links to those online interactive old maps are history ...

In 1893 when the railway reached Milsons Point the classic arched roof & tower of the Milsons Point Ferry & Tram Terminus was already established.
    This is not showing here.
Going down stream down the harbour, Balls Head has Goat Island beside it, then Walsh Bay & Blues Point then Dawes Point, then Milsons Point with Bennelong Point & Kirribili.
With Balls Head & the 'gap' to Dawes Point, the further west you go along Balls Head the further south you go to & the gap opens....
