Dat torentje rechts in beeld is van het voormalige stadhuis van Nieuwer-Amstel, in de 20e eeuw het Gemeentearchief van Amsterdam, ofwel Amsteldijk 67. Derhalve is deze foto waarschijnlijk genomen vanaf de Nieuwe Amstelbrug (die in het verlengde van de Ceintuurbaan over de Amstel voert) en kijken we zuid- en stroomopwaarts. Tegenwoordig zou in de verte de Berlagebrug te zien zijn, maar die bestond in 1909 nog niet. Aan de Amsteldijk hield de bebouwde kom van Amsterdam destijds zo ongeveer op bij de Lutmastraat.
