www.flickr.com/photos/beachcomberaustralia/ You asked, "Why would you put a sundial indoors ?!" The most obvious answer is, so Irish can tell what time it is, when they turn the light on. Maybe the clever photographer used the sundial not so much as a prop but to determine where to position the studio light, based upon the shadow cast on the sundial. A possibility.
