MATT TALBOT CROWDS FLOCK TO GRAVE OF DUBLIN WORKER The grave of Matt Talbot in Glasnevin Cemetery, Dublin, became a bed of flowers yesterday evening and over 300 petitions were placed in the wooden box over it, after thousands had visited it in honour of the eighth anniversary of this Dublin workingman's death, on Trinity Sunday, 1925. Among the pilgrims were a Maltese, a Dutchman, and a number of Americans. A large number also came from the Immaculate Conception Sodality, at St. Francis Xavier's, Gardiner Street, to which Matt Talbot belonged for forty years. The petitions will be taken out and sent to the diocesan court, which is collecting the evidence for the introduction in Rome of the Cause of this Servant of God. Mrs. Andrews, sister of Matt Talbot, was present with a number of other relatives. The rosary was recited during the evening. One of Matt Talbot's fellow members of the sodality told an IRISH PRESS representative that since the diocesan court began its proceedings the numbers visiting the grave every day in the week and particularly on Sundays had grown immensely. His fame was spreading far and wide.

Is he still in Glasnevin or were his remains moved to an inner city church near Croke Park?

DannyM8 Looks like he's had three resting places: He was originally buried in a poorer part of Glasnevin Cemetery before being moved to the vault where Fr.Gentili was buried. The coffin was moved in 1972 and the remains now rest in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Sean MacDermott St., Dublin.

Via Trove, this 1864 description - "The greatest event of the month [October 1864], however, has been the inauguration of Father Mathew's statue at Cork, which took place upon the 10th instant, amidst the most gratifying demonstration from all parties. The chisel of the illustrious [John] Hogan has given to us the placid face and the majestic form of the great Apostle, giving us a vivid idea of that inward power which enabled him to sway countless multitudes and subjugate them to his will. The priest, the father, the friend is gone but his spirit still dwells among us, visible in the improved habits not only of our own people but of all civilized nations who now happily look upon drunkenness as a vice and esteem temperance a virtue. ... Noticing that gas lamps, along the street that narrow it to before 1927. esbarchives.ie/2017/09/18/connecting-cork-to-the-national... So, were there tax collection records in Cork or Census, back between 1864 to 1930? Could identify one or two business and then cross-check tax and census records. Furneral notices for business owners along the street would also narrow it down, because it is likely the business did not extend much beyond passing. Clothing, certain hats worn, during a particular span opf time would also help. Further . . . This reference states there were electric trams with overhead powerlines in Cork, from 1901.
